Organizational Communication is one of the realest courses I have ever done in terms of reasoning. These are the courses that you carry with you out of the classroom and into daily life. As a communicator, it is important to know how to communicate for many reasons. I knew some of those reasons... but this course taught me to put it into practice. They gave me a new perspective on WHY we need to communicate well and directly HOW it impacted others. I am glad I did such a course before I finished my studies. This will most definitely improve my view of myself as a communicator and make me a better representative of CARIMAC, which I hope to make proud as much as possible.
Auditing has been another soft spot for me. Next to high analysis which I never really took serious before, I learnt that I am also excellent at caring for people and their well being. That is a whole lot of self discovery right there trust me... With the audit my group performed, I was able to apply my theoretical skills to practical and important communication activities and that felt very worthwhile. It did not feel like 'Oh another assignment' but there was a joy in doing it and working with my group to bring about real change in real people's lives. We have even considered taking on this audit thing as a business when we leave school... I hope that idea flies.
This class has opened me up to recognizing healthy and unhealthy communication practices around me, whether it is in my home, in Cadet, assessing the leadership and information styles or even at the hairdressers listening to the constant bickering and attacking of staff members among themselves. I cannot afford to share this communication knowledge with myself only. More people need to know the benefits of good communication for their own good, and for the good of their business.
I have tapped into a need for good organizational communication and I do not intend to let it go. I hope I can share this love with others and create better communicators both within my field and outside.
I am glad I did this course, and I would encourage other communication students to take it on.
